Cosmetic Dentistry is a popular term for making teeth look ‘nice’. For us, it conjures up the image of the over-white California big tooth smile. We prefer the term ‘Aesthetic Dentistry’.
In our experience patients want their teeth to look ‘nice’ but ‘natural’. They do not want others to know that they have had crowns and implants to create their beautiful smile.
We only use the latest ‘aesthetic’ materials for all fillings, veneers, crowns, bridges and implants. These create the most natural and durable restorations.
This practice has always been in the forefront of the latest techniques and materials. In 2003, we moved to digital laser scanning to produce very accurate ceramic crowns, veneers and inlays. The restorations are called CEREC which is the acronym for ‘CEramic REConstruction’. We use them for 95% of the aesthetic dentistry involving crowns , bridges and inlays. This is One-Stop, Same-Day Dentistry as everything is designed and made on the premises and we finish the artwork ( staining and glazing ) by hand in the surgery. This gives us the ability to match the teeth almost perfectly so that they look completely natural. Unlike conventional porcelains, the material has the same wear resistance as enamel so is ideal for rebuilding bites and also for single teeth.
Paramount in the provision of good dental practice is the concept of ‘minimal intervention dentistry’ i.e. don’t damage a tooth more than is necessary. Drilling for a conventional filling can remove too much tooth and thus weaken the tooth. We design our CERECs to replace only the missing part without further destruction.
